In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

Ramadan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an, as a guide to humankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgement (between right and wrong). So everyone of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in Saum (fasting), but if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put you to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Allah in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful. [Qur'an 2:185, translated by A.Yusuf Ali]

"Verily, We sent it down in the night of al-Qadr. And what will make you know what the night of al-Qadr is? The night of al-Qadr is better than a thousand months. Therein descend the angels and the Spirit by their Lord's permission with all Decrees. Peace! Until the appearance of dawn."(Al-Qadr: 1-5)
